The Post
Camp Parks is the Army Reserve's own name for its mission here: "Gateway to Readiness." The 91st Training Division anchors the installation, and more than 30 tenant units work alongside it — the 84th and 80th Training Commands, the 368th Military Intelligence Battalion, the 191st Army Band, a Western Cyber Protection Center detachment, and a Navy Seabee construction battalion among them. Together they support roughly 11,000 Army Reserve soldiers across the Bay Area.
The ground has been Army property since 1942, when it opened as a Navy Seabee replacement center named for Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks. It spent most of the 1950s as an Air Force base before returning to the Army in 1959 and taking its current designation, Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, in 1980.

On-post housing exists — The Villages at Camp Parks — but it's limited, and the installation itself has no commissary, no DoD schools, and no on-post medical facility. Most people who work here, whether full-time staff or Reservists in for training, commute from the surrounding Tri-Valley.
