The Base
This is a Navy-led joint base with two distinct halves. Little Creek — the former Naval Amphibious Base — holds the working waterfront: home to Naval Special Warfare Group 2, the East Coast's amphibious group, and the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command community, the parts of the Navy built to operate where the water ends. Fort Story, a few miles east at Cape Henry, is the Army's piece — dunes, surf, and beachfront used for amphibious and logistics-over-the-shore training you can't replicate anywhere else on the East Coast.
