The Wing
Kunsan Air Base is the forward home of the 8th Fighter Wing — the "Wolf Pack" — flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon from Korea's west coast. The wing's job is straightforward: keep combat-ready F-16s ready to fly, fight, and win alongside the Republic of Korea Air Force, from day one of any conflict.
The flying mission runs through the 8th Operations Group's two fighter squadrons — the 35th Fighter Squadron, the "Pantons," and the 80th Fighter Squadron — backed by the 8th Maintenance, Mission Support, and Medical Groups. Kunsan is also genuinely joint: Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery, part of the Army's 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, runs Patriot air-defense coverage from the same installation.
