The Post
NAB Coronado sits on the Silver Strand and is the West Coast home of Naval Special Warfare Command and its Naval Special Warfare Center, which runs Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training — the entry pipeline every SEAL candidate has to get through. Naval Special Warfare Group ONE (SEAL Teams 1, 3, 5, and 7) and Naval Special Warfare Group THREE are both headquartered here, alongside the Navy Reserve's Naval Special Warfare Group 11 (SEAL Teams 17 and 18).
It's also Navy Expeditionary Combat Command's West Coast anchor for the amphibious mission: Assault Craft Unit One, Beachmaster Unit One, and Amphibious Construction Battalion One run the small-boat and beach-landing side of the house, with Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One based next door. More than 30 tenant commands and roughly 5,000 personnel share the peninsula.
Because it shares the Coronado peninsula with NAS North Island, it also shares that base's beach-town setting and some of the highest housing costs in the San Diego region — which shapes almost every housing decision below.
